24 Jan 1943
Around 1500B/24, HrMs O 21 (Lt.Cdr. J.F. van Dulm, RNN) departed from East London for Diego Suarez. Upon leaving East London A/S exercises were carried out with HMS Sondra (T/Lt. W.P. Hart, RNR) which was to escort her part of the way.

At midnight during the night of 26/27 January, to the east of Durban, HMS Sondra parted company in approximate position 30°44'S, 37°50'E. (1)

4 Mar 1943
HMS Sondra (T/Lt. W.P. Hart, RNR) picks up 45 survivors from the British steam merchant Sheaf Crown that was torpedoed and damaged by the German U-boat U-160 east-north-east of East London in position 31°49'N, 31°11'E.
