History | Laid down as Sisseton, completed in December 1920 as Ourcq for US Shipping Board (USSB), Philadelphia. 1924 renamed American Farmer for US Lines Co, New York. In February 1940 sold to Belgium and renamed Ville de Liège. | ||
Notes on event | At 01.17 hours on 14 April 1941 the unescorted Ville de Liège (Master C.P. Peterson) was hit aft by one of two torpedoes fired by U-52 about 700 miles east of Cape Farewell. At 02.10 hours, the ship sank burning after being hit by a G7a coup de grâce at 01.30 hours. The master, nine crew members and two passengers were the only survivors. | ||
