Notes on event | At 22.57 hours on 14 February 1941 the unescorted Belcrest (Master Norman Cecil Brockwell), a straggler from convoy SC-21 since 11 February, was hit on the port side by two torpedoes from U-101 about 300 miles west of Ireland. The torpedoes struck the bow and just aft of amidships and caused the ship to break in two and sink within 90 seconds. The master, 35 crew members and one gunner were lost.
Revisions | April 2015 by Rainer Kolbicz: Earlier this attack of U-101 was attributed with the sinking of Holystone, but newer research shows that the ship sunk was Belcrest.
