History Completed in September 1919

On 28 Oct 1940, the Stureholm (Master Sven Olander) left Halifax with convoy HX-84, which was attacked on 5 November by the German pocket-battleship Admiral Scheer. The sole escort HMS Jervis Bay (F 40) (Capt E.S.F. Fegen, RN) was sunk when engaging the superior enemy, but this action allowed the most ships of the convoy to scatter and escape in the dusk. 65 survivors were picked up by Stureholm during the night and the ship returned to Halifax, arriving on 12 November.
Notes on event

At 01.56 hours on 12 Dec 1940, U-96 fired a G7e torpedo at the Stureholm (Master John Olof Gunnar Berner) in convoy HX-92 and observed a hit in the stern and the sinking of the vessel after eleven minutes. The launch of four lifeboats was also observed by the U-boat but no survivors were ever found.
