Notes on event | At 19.57 hours on 13 Oct 1940 the unescorted Stangrant (Master Evan David Rowlands), a straggler from convoy HX-77, was hit aft by one torpedo from U-37 and sank on even keel northeast of Rockall. Eight crew members were lost. The survivors in one of the lifeboats were questioned by the Germans. The master, 28 crew members and one gunner were rescued by a Sunderland flying boat (10 Sqdn RAAF) and landed at Oban. | ||
