Notes on event | At 00.55 hours on 1 September 1940 the unescorted Efploia, a straggler from convoy OB-205, was hit aft by a G7e torpedo from U-101 about 130 miles northwest of Ireland. The Germans observed that the ship settled by the stern and the crew abandoned ship in two lifeboats. The survivors were picked up later that day by HMS Anthony (H 40) (LtCdr N.J.V. Thew, RN), which scuttled the wreck by gunfire in 55°43N/13°05W. |
