Notes on event | On 4 July 1943, U-199 sank a small vessel with a sail aft with gunfire off Arrail do Cabo. The vessel was first unsuccessfully attacked with the 37mm AA gun and then with seven rounds from the deck gun of which two shells hit. After it sank the U-boat searched the area but no survivors were found. The Changri-Lá (Master João da Costa Marques) of about 20 grt was reported missing after leaving Arrail do Cabo in the early morning of 4 July, where the ship had sought refuge from bad weather. Only some parts of the wooden hull were later washed ashore near that harbor. | ||
