History Completed in September 1935 as Norwegian whaler Globe VI for Melsom & Melsom, Larvik. In April 1941 hired by the Royal Navy and used as M/S trawler HMS Globe VI (J 136). On 30 Jul 1941, transferred to the Royal Norwegian Navy in Capetown and later renamed HNoMS Maaløy. On 12 Jun 1942, returned to the Royal Navy as HMS Maaløy (J 136) and stationed in Karachi as part of the Minesweeping Group 177 in the Eastern Fleet. 
Notes on event

On 27 March 1944, HMS Maaløy (J 136) (T/Lt F.J. Perkins, RNVR) was torpedoed and sunk by U-510 off Ceylon. The commander, 23 crew members and at least two passengers (FltLt Donald E. Walker and Maldivian chief minister Hassan Fareed) were lost.
