Notes on event | On 21 March 1944 the unescorted Matadian (Master Cyril Gordon Silwyn Shorter) was torpedoed and sunk by U-66 southeast of Lagos. The master, 38 crew members and eight gunners were picked up by the British motor launch HMS ML-282 (SubLt D.R. Pearson), transferred to the British motor launch HMS ML-1016 and landed at Lagos. | ||
