Notes on event | At 03.26 hours on 21 March 1940 the neutral Christiansborg was hit in the foreship by one torpedo from U-38 and broke in two. The ship had been missed by a stern torpedo at 02.56 hours. The forepart sank in 60°15N/02°40W and the afterpart was shelled and sunk by the British armed boarding vessel HMS Discovery II later the same day. The survivors were picked up by the British vessel and taken to Kirkwall. | ||
