Notes on event

At 23.17 hours on 9 March 1940 U-28 fired one G7e torpedo at an illuminated westbound freighter without flag about 70 miles south-southwest of the Scilly Isles and observed that the ship sank by the stern within 90 seconds after being struck on port side just ahead of the aft mast and breaking in two. This must have been the P. Margaronis which was reported missing after 8 March southwest of Land’s End.
