History | Completed in May 1937 Post-war: In November 1952 sold to Liberia and renamed Angy for Monrovia Shipping Co (N.G. Livanos), Monrovia. On 8 March 1953 the tanker caught fire about 400 miles southeast of Newfoundland and broke in two after an explosion in 40°22N/50°11W. While the forepart sank immediately, the stern sank five days later. | ||
Notes on event | At 10.10 hours on 22 February 1943 the Thorsholm in convoy GUS-4 was slightly damaged by a mine laid by U-118 on 1 February 5.4 miles 27° from Cape Spartel and proceeded with convoy to New York, where the tanker was apparently repaired and returned to service in less than a month. | ||
