History Launched as Ville de Lyon, completed in October 1920 as Ville de Strasbourg for Nouvelle Compagnie Havraise Péninsulaire de Navigation, Le Havre. Later sold to Compagnie des Messageries Maritimes, Dunkerque. In March 1941, the Vichy French ship was seized by the Royal Navy off the Cape of Good Hope, transferred to the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT) and used as troop transport until returned to France in April 1945.

Post-war:
Used as transport to bring French troops to Indochina until 1951. Broken up at Faslane in December 1952. 
Notes on event

At 18.31 hours on 7 Jan 1943 the Ville de Strasbourg in convoy MKS-5 was hit by one torpedo from U-371 off Bougie. The ship was towed to Algiers where she was further damaged by a German air attack on 26 January. After temporary repairs the ship left in July 1943 arriving in Methil on 25 August and returned to service in February 1944.
