Notes on event | At 02.00 hours on 28 Dec 1942, U-617 fired two torpedoes at a tug towing two barges and observed a hit and heard a heavy detonation. At 03.36 hours, the U-boat fired another spread of two torpedoes and assumed the sinking of a barge after hearing two detonations. However, only HMS St. Issey (W 25) (Lt John H.W. Howe, RNR) was lost while towing a barge off Benghazi, Lybia. | ||
