Notes on event | At 06.30 hours on 3 Nov 1942, U-160 fired a spread of two torpedoes at ships of convoy TAG-18 north of Margarita Island and reported hits on two ships. However, both torpedoes hit the Thorshavet (Master Arne Harbo Hansen) on the starboard side in the engine room, killing two men on watch below. The survivors abandoned ship in four lifeboats and some of them reboarded the ship at daylight to search for three missing men. In the afternoon they were picked up by a destroyer and landed at Curaçao the following evening. On 6 November, a salvage vessel was sent out, but the next day the wreck was reported to have sunk. | ||
