History | Completed in March 1923 as Italian Vigor for Soc Marit per Transporto di Petrolio e Derivati La Columbia, Genoa. On 8 Dec 1941, seized by Mexico and renamed Amatlan. | ||
Notes on event | At 04.30 hours on 4 Sep 1942 the unescorted Amatlan (Master Gonzalo Montalvo Salazar) was hit on the starboard side by a stern torpedo from U-171 about 60 miles off Tampico. The tanker had evaded three attacks with spreads of two torpedoes before being hit and took three coups de grâce until she sank. | ||
