Notes on event | At 05.30 hours on 19 Aug 1942 the barque Jacyra (Master Norberto Hilário dos Santos) was stopped by U-507 with two rounds from the deck gun about 10 miles off Itacaré, Brazil. At 08.00 hours, the vessel was sunk with four scuttling charges after the crew abandoned ship in a lifeboat. The survivors made landfall at Serra Grande beach, about 8 miles south of Itacaré. | ||
