Notes on event | At 17.44 hours on 1 July 1942 the unescorted Cadmus (Master Alfred Stenersen) was hit on the port side between #4 hatch and the poop by one torpedo from U-129 and sank by the stern in the Gulf of Mexico. The U-boat surfaced to question the survivors and fished 16 banana tier out of the water. Two men were killed on board and the remaining 20 crew members abandoned ship in two lifeboats. The survivors made landfall at the coast of Mexico about 60 miles south of Texpan after five days. | ||
