All 50 crew members and seven passengers were picked up by another ship of the convoy, the American Liberty ship Richard H. Alvey.
Notes on event | At 03.10 hours on 26 June 1942 the unescorted Tamesis (Master Even A. Bruun-Evensen) was hit by a torpedo from U-701 off Diamond Shoal. The explosion blew a large hole in #4 hold. All hands abandoned ship in the lifeboats, but in the morning the master and ten men reboarded the Tamesis and beached her in the Hatteras Inlet. Later the ship was towed to New York where she was repaired and returned to service.
