Notes on event | At 03.40 hours on 10 June 1942, U-94 fired three torpedoes at a group of three ships from convoy ONS-100 southeast of Cape Farewell, heard three hits and the sinking of two ships. First, the Empire Clough on her maiden voyage was hit and abandoned, but sank after the Ramsay, which was the only other ship that had been hit. The master, 38 crew members and five gunners from the Empire Clough (Master Felix de Bastarrechea) were rescued. 32 survivors were picked up by the HMS Dianthus (K 95) (LtCdr C.E. Bridgeman) and landed at St.Johns and 12 survivors were picked up by the Portuguese trawler Argus, landed at Greenland on 26 June and were transferred four days later to a US Navy patrol boat. Four crew members and one gunner were lost. | ||
