Notes on event | At 20.30 hours on 19 Oct 1943 the Penolver in station #21 of convoy WB-65 struck a mine laid on 9 October by U-220 15 miles off St.Johns and sank within three minutes. The Delisle in station #22 stopped to pick up the survivors, but was also hit by a mine about 15 minutes later. 23 crew members and three gunners from the Penolver (Master George H. Naish) were lost. The master, twelve crew members and one gunner were picked up by the HMCS Miscou (T 277) and landed at St.Johns. | ||
