Personal information
6/3 Maritime Regiment. Son of Charles and Christina Smith; husband of Margaret Smith, of Liverpool. He was one of the survivors from Sithonia who were in the lifeboat in charge of the master and made landfall after 19 days at Cape Timiris. They were interned by the Vichy French authorities at Sébikotane near Dakar, but Charles Smith died en route to a hospital at Dakar on 27 October 1942 and was buried in the Rufisque Cemetery.
