Personal information
Husband of Laura Palmer, of Barrow-in-Furness. William Ernest Palmer joined the Royal Navy on 2 August 1926. He served aboard HMS Naiad from 2 July 1940 until the cruiser was sunk on 11 March 1942. Afterwards he remained stationed in the Mediterranean, serving aboard the destroyer depot ships HMS Resource, HMS Woolwich and HMS Blenheim until returning to the UK in February 1944 as part of the ad hoc crew of the patched-up HMS Rockwood, which had been heavily damaged by a German glider bomb in the Aegean Sea on 11 November 1943.
