Personal information
Robert Barclay served in the Merchant Navy from 1940 until October 1946. He not only survived two sinkings by U-boats, but also the loss of the British merchant Shetland which was bombed and sunk by a German Fw200 aircraft on 23 June 1943 and the loss of the British merchant Alden Gifford that foundered during a gale on 2 September 1944.
