Personal information
Carmelo Di Meo later told his family the story about surviving in treacherous waters for about three to four days after the sinking of Nova Scotia. He and his friends were hanging on a piece of debris and was watching them being taken one by one by sharks. After the rescue he was taken to a camp at Pietermaritzburg. Carmelo remained in Durban for the rest of his life.
