Personal information
Ronald Cavill was probably one of the youngest aboard HMS Vervain as he had tried to join up earlier by altering his birth certificate but was found out. He was a very good swimmer and had won a medal at school, later joking that he was one of the last off the ship but one of the first in the rubber float. Ronald told his family that he had left the bridge five minutes before it was torpedoed and all those on the bridge had died.
His son Ronald has photos of him on board with other crew members, please contact us if you wish to see them.
