Personal information
Jesse M. Hagin was originally from Tampa, FL, but moved and had a family living in Brooklyn, NY. As the war ended the tanker he served on was moored off Panama City waiting for passage through the canal when Jesse was called to the bridge by the master to tell him the submarine tender USS Clytie (AS 26) en route to Fremantle had signaled. He was given shore leave as his son served aboard the submarine tender, but the two ships had the same birth so they did not actually see each other again till a month later. Jesse continued sailing with Socony-Vacuum (later Mobil) until his retirement in the early 1960s.
