Personal information
Elizabeth Gadsby and her son William Alexander were returning to Canada aboard Athenia after visiting relatives in England. Both survived the sinking and eventually made the North Atlantic passage aboard Mauretania two weeks later.
"Bill" Gadsby became a professional ice hockey player after the war and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1970.
