Personal information
According to his family John Bernard Darwen rarely spoke of the war, however of the two or three stories he did tell the Llangibby Castle being torpedoed was one, swimming in the Suez near a kings ship another. He was cooking at the time it was struck and water poured in through the porthole. That day he always remembered serving sea water sausages.
