Personal information
Son of Manila Mashburn, of Etowah County, Alabama. Elvin Gordon Mashburn enlisted in the US Navy on 12 December 1941, was assigned to USS Hambleton and severely burned when the destroyer was torpedoed on 11 November 1942. He was transferred to USS Hugh L. Scott which was herself torpedoed the next day and in a serious condition when received aboard USS Joseph T. Dickman (AP 26). He died on 14 November and was buried at sea in position 35°11'N, 09°09'W.
