Personal information
Joseph P. Manerchia was one of the three men who reboarded the Lehigh after she was torpedoed to send a distress signal. He continued to serve in the Merchant Marine through World War Two and thereafter until circa 1968, afterwards working as a construction foreman in the Sun Oil & Sinclair Refineries in Marcus Hook, PA until retiring in 1982. Joseph married the late Jean C. Myers in 1959 and had four sons, seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
