Personal information
Francis Richard Doherty served in the Merchant Navy until 1943 when he volunteered to run the blockade from Hull to Sweden, serving aboard the converted motor gun boats Hopewell and Gay Viking until the end of the war. He participated in Operation Neptune for one voyage with the coastal tanker CHANT 45 which laid a fuel pipeline from the UK to the Normandy. After the war he worked in the Fishing Fleet from Hull.
