Personal information
Phillip Jones from Chester survived the sinking of HMS Hermione and was taken to Alexandria, but until days later reported missing and presumed dead. He lost black ebony elephants and a lion carved from red wood in the sinking that he had intended to bring back to his 18 months old son Lionel (named after Lionel Painter, a friend on a previous ship who probably died in service). While washing the oil from him Phillip hung his watch up on a peg and when he returned someone had taken it!
