Personal information
Nikolaos Apostolos Modonas was the boatswain of the Greek steam merchant Stamatios G. Embiricos which had been sunk by the German raider Kormoran in the Indian Ocean on 23 September 1941. He was taken prisoner, later transferred to the Spreewald and lost when the blockade runner was sunk in error by U-333 on 31 January 1942.
