Personal information
Thomas Earl Whitney survived the sinking of USS Hugh L. Scott, made it to the shore and stayed in Casablanca until being repatriated. He was then assigned to USS Yorktown (CV 10) which was in the final stages of construction. He served aboard the carrier until being transferred to shore duties in San Francisco and Washington towards the end of the war. Thomas was active until shortly before his death with the annual reunion of the crew of USS Hugh L. Scott.
