Personal information
Husband of Florence Elizabeth Tyler (nee Wakefield) and father of Cedric William, Barbara Florence and Malcolm John. William George Tyler had joined Orcades on 13 May 1942 after having served aboard Ormond and Andalucia Star. A short time after the Orcades was sunk, his wife received a letter stating that her husband was missing in action, believed to be dead. Some six to seven months later his family was delighted when a knock on the front door revealed William who had finally been repatriated from South Africa after being rescued. He and his family immigrated to Australia in 1951.
