Personal information
Norman Covell served in the RN from 9 June 1938 to 6 March 1946. He was promoted from Ordinary Seaman to Able Seaman on 9 November 1939 and joined HMS Dunvegan Castle on 20 December 1939. Norman was wounded in the sinking of the ship, but survived and obtained the non-substantive rank of Seaman Torpedo Man on 17 January 1941. He became T/A/Leading Seaman on 29 April 1943 and eventually T/Leading Seaman on 29 April 1944.
