Personal information
Enlisted in the US Navy in Dallas on 22 Jan, 1943. Melvin Garvin Pritchett served aboard the newly commissioned USS New Jersey from May 1943 until being transferred to USS Fechteler on 10 Feb, 1944. He was wounded when the ship was sunk and ended up in VA Hospital at Charleston in full body cast with multiple injuries. After recovery continued to serve in the US Navy until being discharged on 26 Jun, 1947.
