Personal information
George A. Whalley was one of the 22 survivors in the lifeboat that reached Dakar after the sinking of Memnon and was interned by the Vichy French authorities until being released on 29 May 1941. However, he soon ended up in internment again because he signed on aboard the British prize Criton to bring her from Freetown to the UK, but the ship was intercepted and sunk by Vichy French warships on 21 June 1941.
