Personal information
Jack Kirtland was actually steering HMS Mounsey when she was hit. The force of the torpedo threw him across deck and almost overboard. The torpedo had hit the water tanks and he believes this saved many lives. The ones that did lose their lives died of suffocation as the ships internal doors closed. He had covered a lot of different jobs on the frigate, one of them was that he had to go pick up the second lieutenants wife every time they came into port!
