Personal information
Ernest Setchell survived the sinking of HMS Goodall as he was on deck having a cigarette break and was thrown overboard when the magazine exploded. After being picked up by a Russian vessel, he was thrown over the cowling to get him warm and given vodka. After the war he returned to work for British Rail as a stoker, later became a driver and retired in good health.
