Personal information
Son of Henry Whitfield and Esther Thoburn Kaye, of Monkseaton, Northumberland. Henry Frederick Whitfield Kaye was the chief officer aboard the British steam passenger ship New Beford in convoy RB-1 and fell overboard when one of her lifeboats capsized during a rescue attempt of survivors from Boston on 25 Sep, 1942. He was picked up along with the survivors of the torpedoed ship by HMS Veteran, which was subsequently herself torpedoed and sunk with all hands on 26 September.
