Son of William J. and Martha Jane Martino; husband of Monia J. Martino, of Baltimore, MD. His brother William Mack Martino was lost in the sinking of Albert F. Paul on 13 March 1942.
John Luther Martino was in command of two ships that were lost due to enemy action: Alcoa Cadet was mined and lost near Murmansk on 21 Jun, 1942 and Alcoa Mariner was torpedoed and sunk by a U-boat in September 1942.
