Master Mariner. Alexander Henderson was rescued by HMCS Timmins after the sinking of Empire Sailor. He led a boarding party of four men who reboarded the vessel equipped with gas masks to search for three missing crewmen and to see if the ship could be salvaged. Doing so he inhaled phosgene gas and some 26 hours later collapsed in a hotel at Halifax, but recovered.
