Personal information
On 28 Feb, 1940, John McGirr joined HMS Andania and survived the sinking in June 1940. He was hospitalised for some time after the incident as he had caught pneumonia and served the remainder of the war on the rescue tug HMS Sea Giant after joining the vessel in September 1940.
