Personal information
Son of Ingvald E. Børretzen, of Etne. Repatriated aboard Robert E. Lee from Grenada on 21 June 1942, arriving at New Orleans on 30 June.
Steen Helmer Børretzen remained a seaman until his retirement about 1980. He married Rita Norheim in 1949 and they had five children (three sons and two daughters), who remember him as a very intelligent man. The wartime experiences surely changed him for life and he avoided to talk about it.
