Personal information
Harold William Brockwell, Master of SS Aelybryn (torpedoed twice) was born in 1899 at The Curragh, Ireland - his father was in the British Army stationed there. He was the son of Alfred William Brockwell and Ethel Mary Smith. He survived the war and died in 1980. After the second u-boat attack in May 1943, in which the Aelybryn was sunk, he was soon back at sea and by July 1943 he was sailing again as Master of the Jamaica Producer, a ship that had been damaged by u-boat attack earlier in 1943 but repaired (information from the Brockwell Family History Society).
