Travelled as timber trader Thomas Shearer. Husband of Valerie Schubauer, of Bramley, near Guildford, Surrey. Theodor Schubauer was an Austrian socialist who fled with his Jewish wife from Vienna to the UK after Germany annexed Austria in 1938. He was recruited by the Special Operations Executive (SOE) that planned to send him together with Franz Preiss to Austria via Cairo through Greece and Yugoslavia, but both were lost on passage aboard Jonathan Holt from Liverpool to Takoradi.
