Personal information
John Mansfield Thompson survived the sinking of Vimeira in the lifeboat in charge of the second officer and landed after an eventful voyage in Takoradi on 20 September. Ten days later he boarded the Belgian steam merchant Thysville at Sekondi, arriving in Freetown on 13 October, where he boarded a troop transport for repatriation.
