Personal information
Son of Peder and Mathea Piltingsrud, of Sør-Aurdal, Oppland. Gunnar Piltingsrud joined the Royal Norwegian Air Force after surviving the sinking of Tudor. He became Major in 137 Squadron RAF and was killed in action when his Typhoon aircraft was shot down by German fighters near Üdem, Germany on 24 September 1944.
